Ever wonder why a person is willing to leave behind his or her loved ones, families, relatives, home country and the comfort of being a part of the majority all the way to Russia or thousands of kilometers away from home? Have ones expected that he/she one day would further his/her studies here?
Thousands of ringgits are spent, ample of our valuable times are consumed and the fact that we may not see our parents and siblings again for the rest of the year – all of it must be for a good cause right? What else could pilot someone to carry out such big amount of sacrifices, right?
Then again, does merely reading medicine successfully fulfill the criteria and can be considered as a good reason? Sure, one would argue that medicine abroad is different to medicine locally. True I agree, especially the system, experiences + and extra language. But does it (solely) qualifies as good cause? What are the criteria?
I’m sure no one would disagree with the following statement: << Any action that serves to fulfill our purpose or objective – is a good reason but only and of course if the intention underlying the action is for the sake of Allah and Allah only >>
For Rasulullah s.a.w. said:
Abu Hafs ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab r.a. said: “I heard Allah’s Messenger s.a.w. saying: The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will receive the reward according to what he has intended. So, whoever emigrates for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, his emigration will be (counted as being) for Allah and His Messenger” – collected by al-Bukhari and Muslim [An-Nawawi’s Forty Hadiths]
Referring to the above text, if our true intention is for studying medicine/engineering only or maybe to gain new experiences that one may only gain abroad, insyaAllah, Allah will grant us just that.
But what if our true intention is solely to study for the sake of Allah and Islam, think of the reward Allah has in store and what a meaningful stay it would be for us. However, a question still remains unattended. What is our purpose in life? Quoting a verse from the holy Quran:
“I have only created jins and men, that they may serve Me. No sustenance (food or provisions) do I require of them, nor do I require that they should feed Me. For Allah is He who gives (all) sustenance, Lord of Power, Steadfast” [51:56-58]
Yes, that summarizes it all. If our action (i.e. read medicine in moscow) serves to accomplish our goals above, only then does it qualifies for all of our sacrifices to be rewarded accordingly insyaAllah (but you have to be honest to yourself). Fear not, there’s still time to make amend. =).
Your respective seniors would be more than happy to lend a helping hand (I’m sure).
Ibn ‘Umar r.a. said, Allah’s Messenger s.a.w. took hold of my shoulder and said, “Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler” – collected by al-Bukhari.
Why traveler? Coz life in this world in only temporary and it is the hereafter that matters most. So again, are we really prepared for the eternal life? How hard have we tried to achieve our purpose in life?
In Volgograd, we have an academic project called M&M– Mentor and Mentee. In this project, some seniors are assigned as tutors to the juniors on certain subjects. Basically, it is for the juniors to get important information from the seniors regarding their subjects (eg-anatomy, pharmacology) and gaining general ideas on clinical importance of what they learn during preclinical years.
Classes/tuitions are held informally at hostel rooms, hostel lounges, even in apartments. Time of classes are also flexible, depending on agreement between the mentors and mentees.
This project have proved to be effective, reliable and helpful.
It is free, so you just have to know your tutor for the subject and make yourself free for the classes!
Rubles can be bought at any exchange point or retail bank branch. Exchange points are numerous in Moscow and are usually located close to retail trade outlets and metro entrances.
ATM machines are common & can be found at shopping centers, supermarkets and at metro entrances.
Moscow is ranked as the world’s most expensive city by some surveys due to its recent property boom.
However with some effort, it is not difficult to find places that are reasonable in prices. It helps to know Russian or, even better, to know people who know Russian without a foreign accent.
To place a call to Malaysia, you may use IDD Card like ‘Hello Mama’ which costs you USD 5 . The cards are sold by our Malaysian friends who are the agents and you will know them later.
There are also a few online services widely famous among the students; like VoiP Call and FreeCall, which requires you to register an account and buy credit to call home .
Prepaid sim cards can be bought only using Russian passports. Perhaps it would take some time before you get one of yours, so prepare your parents for any circumstances and delay. However, it is not something to worry, as we will try to get you some sim cards in time.
There are several choices and tariffs such as Megafon, MTS and Beeline. Like Maxis,Digi and Celcom, you are free to make choice regarding your preferences.
Currently, we have one big mosque located in Ulitsa Lengoranskaya and one other small mosque located in Kirovsky region, which only has the size of one tiny bedroom.
Therefore, the muftis planned to build an Islamic Centre at the place of previous mosque at Kirovksy.2,5 hectares of land were allocated to Moslems of the Volgograd Area for the construction of the Kirovsky Islamic Centre.
The Islamic Centre complex includes: Cathedral Mosque, College and Business Centre. All of there mentioned will locate on the bank of the Islamic religion, culture and traditions. Unfortunately, the Islamic Centre is engaged in the construction under the hardest economic conditions without having necessary finances.

Kekasihku,
Lewat berlabuh tirai senja,
merah menutup jendela Moskva,
pada musim panas remaja,
cinta yang berbunga,
daisi mewangi,
kuning dandelion,
selepas mekar tulip
dan harum lilac.
Cinta kita adalah transit,
pengembaraan ke negeri abadi,
yang mengajar erti manusiawi,
pencarian cinta hakiki,
di terminal dunia,
sebuah kehidupan.
Gugur daun ke genggaman,
menanti tibanya musim sejuk,
selalu kau disampingku,
hangat dipelukmu erat,
menenangkan gigil hati sepi,
deras angin tanah nurani.
Dan musim berganti,
kecilku meniti usia dewasa,
kau masih anak gadis rupawan,
ingin dihiasi perhiasan kemodenan
sedang aku setia pada keaslian,
kubah St Basil pelbagai warna,
menghiasi dadamu, Dataran Merah
di Kremlin bersejarah.
Kekasihku,
tiba sudah masa,
untukku meneruskan kembara,
akan kurindu detik waktu itu,
terakhir bercumbu pada malam putih,
keakraban yang memaut kasih,
bersaksi Hermitage dan Peterhof,
di St Petersburg.

We welcome you for the 6-years-battle in the city of heroes-Volgograd formerly called Tsaritsyn (1598–1925) and Stalingrad (1925–1961) ,a city which is 80 kilometres long and situated on the west bank of the Volga River.
The city was the scene of heavy fighting during the Russian Civil War. Also, During WW II, the city of Stalingrad became the center of the Battle of Stalingrad as well as the pivotal turning point in the war against Germany.
The city was reduced to rubble during the fierce fighting, but reconstruction began soon after the Germans were expelled from the city. It was rebuild after the war, that is why most of the buildings are new, except for some historical buildings which are kept as artifacts. Well, u will learn more about the so-called Stalingrad war during your Russian History classes.
For the heroism shown during the battle, Stalingrad was awarded the title Hero City in 1945. A memorial complex commemorating the battle, dominated by an immense allegorical sculpture of Mother Russia, was erected on the Mamayev Kurgan , a hill that saw some of the most intense fighting during the battle..
In a week, your university registration will be taken care by the lecturers. If you need to shop your basic needs, I bet there are seniors who are willing to help. So, get to know your Malaysian community a.s.a.p. Please consult your seniors if you have any problems. Ask even if it is the lamest question, especially regarding communication with the Russians. The people are friendly, well– some of them. But you need fluent Russians to make them like you. So never take your Russian language classes for granted!

Russians love to celebrate. The most important holidays are the New Year’s, Christmas, and the May 9 holidays. Shops close and city streets become strangely quiet. All government offices are closed too on public holidays.
Moscow climate is made up of two discernable seasons: Winter and Summer.
The winter can be exciting and adventurous if you are well prepared. Travelling to classes can be quite cumbersome as you need to deal with snow that has bonded to the pavement surface. It usually starts in November till March. The lowest recorded temperature is -42°C, though 7-10°C is more common.
Comes early spring, the roads are soaking wet with melting snow. The days are getting brighter and warmer and you can sense the atmosphere of change.
Summer arrives almost abruptly in May and temperatures are comfortable until well into late August. The highest recorded temperature is 39°C, although on a humid August day you can tell it’s actually hotter. It’s the time for some good old outdoors.
To many, the favorite seasons are early summer – with its long days, and early autumn – with its colorful foliage, and temperature that feels just about right.

Yes ! In Moscow, ‘metro’or train is one of the main transports here. It’s comfortable for us to go to classes or lectures, no matter if we stayed far away from our study buildings as long as we are in Moscow region.
——————————————————————————–
Example : one of the entrances of metro station.
Example : escalator inside the metro station.
Waiting for the next train….
Inside the train…
Attention ! It is common when the metro station crowded with people.
Especially early in the morning ( where people are going to work ) and early in the evening ( where people are rushing back to their home ).
We, as the student in Moscow, MUST be alerted in such situation !
Manage your time properly which time you will depart from your hostel before going to classes or lectures.
I’m sure you are aware by now that there aren’t that many mosques in Moscow as there are back home. Despite the inadequacy, solat still remains a must and an obligation that needs to be fulfilled. Even though not many places have a special prayer room built for the need of us Muslim, actually you may perform solat at anywhere as long as you feel comfortable.
Careful planning is needed and essential when one is planning to go shopping, traveling and etc. Be sure to wear a clean attire and one that covers your aurat as not only does it pleases Allah taa’la but enables and eases you in performing the obligatory solat wherever and whenever. Furthermore to be on the safe side, always bring a compass (for the Qiblah) and a timetable for prayer with you. You can download the monthly update from PPIM or KUMOSC blog.
Where ever you are in Moscow, do not skip your obligatory solat. If you are facing a problem that related to qiblah ( i.e you will start puzzling and arguing with your friends : “which is the right qiblah?” or anything related to it ) in a case you forgot to bring the compass, please remember what is Allah taa’la saying in the Surah Al-Baqarah ( i.e chapter 2 ), verse 115 :
“And to Allah belong the east and the west,so wherever you turn ( yourselves or your faces ) there is the Face (Countenance ) of Allah.Surely! Allah is All-Sufficient for His creature’s needs, All-Knowing.”
Surely you could solve the problem, if you really understand the verse whole-heartedly. Allah is the Most Merciful and the Most Forgiveness. So, don’t have to worry so much.
